21st century learning. What tutoring can do for you!

The reality of 21st century learning

There are so many ways to learn but how your child learns on an individualised scale is far more important to invest and grow in. Tutoring is one of the pathways that parents are starting to see the benefits of. Especially when it comes to learning because it is completely different in its overall approach in comparison to school environments.

Firstly tutoring provides:

· Personlised avenues for 1:1 learning to flourish and grow

· Greater student engagement

· More creative learning outlets

· Tailored learning experiences

· Improved student/teacher communication

Tutoring is now being seen by parents as an effective educational activity used to supplement what kids are learning in school, while also being a way for kids to get involved in topics they can't learn in school.

To get an idea of what tutoring is, try to visualise a classroom that doesn’t have a “one size fits all” approach to education. The tutor doesn’t lead all students through the same lessons. Instead, the tutor guides each student on a personalised learning journey. The what, when, where and how of learning is tailored to meet each student’s strengths, skills, needs, and interest areas.

The benefits that I have seen flourish in all of our students whilst engaging in 1:1 private tutoring have been amazing. Nothing makes us happier than to see our students excited about learning something important.

Focusing on the lesson objectives and how we can improve their level of motivation and understanding are our ultimate goals especially when it comes to constructing and developing our lesson plans. Each child that we teach requires a different angle in the delivery of the online classes and that is something that we work hard on to ensure that each child is getting the best results we desire and want for them.

Tutoring should be seen as something that can really help your child grow in their learning. Let’s think for a second: imagine your child struggles with focused attention or ability to retain interest in the traditional learning topics in a school setting. About 6 months passes and you notice that your child is not really showing an understanding in their homework or in their learning topics. How would we support this? Perhaps you wait until the following year for them to adapt and learn with a new teacher / school? A solution most parents resort to. However, these risks are far too great to wait around and see if playing the long game and enduring the status quo of their current learning will even work.

That is why tutoring is something that we believe in at the academy. We know parents are looking for affordable yet viable ways to overcome things quicker and looking for alternative solutions. One of the best things about our online classes are that they are extremely interactive and also only go for 30 minutes.

We have taught students for 1 hr, 1.5 hr and even 2 hrs in some cases based on the requests we have received from parents. Quite extensive in some cases. A typical student's attention span is about 10 to 15 minutes long, yet most classes can last for 30 minutes to an hour. It’s important to ensure that we understand attention span timing and align with the ‘what’ children can absorb in a session whilst delivering quality.

What we have found over the years of experience is that we have worked out a way where we can really cover good learning topics within half an hour as opposed to stretching the learning content out over a full hour or even more.

At Real Stuff Matters Academy, we ensure that all our tutors are women who are passionate, motivated, and also the subject matter experts in their area of teaching. Our 30-minute sessions are known to make a large impact within the time whilst ensuring that students are walking away feeling more confident and motivated with their overall learning too.

Finally, 1:1 student learning is something that all students should experience because it offers deeper learning, improves confidence, introduces accountability, and ultimately gives children an outlet for their learning.
